neueheimat is joinig the cirque du minimaliste family on its sublabel manege with his debut release *quartier3*. neueheimat was founded near hamburg in 2012 by dennis grell. after working for many years as a commissioned producer and remixer for publishers and labels, dennis wished to start his own, new project and truly realise his creativity. conceptually, the aim is for the music to blend seamlessly with his photographs of urban architecture and to document the anonymity of life within city walls. influenced by artists such as anders trentemøller, jon hopkins, trent reznor and the earlier einstürzende neubauten, dennis began creating his own definition of electronic music. neueheimat and subsequently *quartier3 ep* are characterised by dennis clear style of production: a few lighter passages, but primarily creating a deep and murky impression. large spaces leave room for interpretation and present the listener with images that either they have never seen or have been missing for a long time. created on old analogue equipment, mixed on a 30-year-old tape recorder and mastered by mastering engineer stefan betke (tresor, cabaret voltaire, lucy, laibach), *quartier3* is a significant milestone in dennis production history.

some rather memorable moments in the catalogue of jimmy tamborello, aka dntel, feature collaborations with neatly paired guest vocalists such as ben gibbard, jenny lewis, baths and mia doi todd, to name a few. tamborello has always paid a good deal of attention to picking these singers carefully, with his backing a perfect complement- the producer humbly stepping out of the spotlight, allowing the guest to shine.

gynoid audio, one of the few female labels around, started her course in2010. shes now one of the most prolific labels when it comes to a varietyof functional techno, with focus on drive, mood, dirt and depth. theamount of well-established veterans (both old and new) who released orremixed.

after few nolder, italian fellow lehar aka lorenzo esposito is the second new signing for connaisseur this year. apart from his residency at the cirq club in venice and regular bookings at some of the best clubs and parties in italy and malta, lehar truly is a very talented producer as well. some of you might have heard the free download for lehars remix of kollektiv turmstrasses classic *tristesse* which has caused some attention on him the past weeks and was therefore the perfect precursor for this release. his demo impressed us very much and both titles really hit our taste. and as though this wasn t enough, together with his demo he delivered a remix by his friend and probably hottest producer of the moment: mario basanov, head of the label boso and mostly know under his moniker ten walls.

ovums 20th birthday celebrations continues with the debut of tuccillo tuccillo has been a producer/dj for longer than 15 years being a self-taught virtuoso of the electronic sound. originally from italy, he established himself in ibiza a few years ago. he stood out with his open format sound, playing house, techno, deep house, down tempo and balearic.

londoners kiwi and ashworth return to sneaky for a follow-up to dawn ep, the warm, dusty and at times experimental release, championed by the likes of daniel avery, eric duncan and tiefschwarz. the past few months have been busy for both halves of the duo, with kiwi signing to duke dumont s blase boys club and remixing for house music super-labels bpitch control and get physical, whilst ashworth has signed music to tomoki tamura s holic trax and needwant. second ep takes a new format, with two original tracks alaska and na am on the a-side, backed up by a nicholas & marcoradi remix of cux3 and ranacat s remix of zubr. alaska could be described as an amalgamation of the inspirations that lead to the first sneaky release, combining the pumping house beats of cux3, the comforting wurlitzer of zubr and the ethereal movie-soundtrack dusk. na am is something totally different, existing mainly as a collage of recorded and found sounds, avoiding the usual structure of house music in favour of something reminiscent of the weirder side of the chemical brothers. strange though the track may be, the climax would undoubtedly move a room full of pilled up ravers to a state of frenzy. the b-side remixes both hint to dance floors of the 90s, with nicholas and marcoradi making you wait and wait before dropping an unforgettable piano hook, whilst sneaky s ranacat lifts zubr out of context and into peak time territory.

london/venezuela production duo juan laya & jorge montiel aka los charlys orchestra take influences from salsoul, fania, donna summer, cerrone, herbie hancock and even jamiroquay and blend them with their very unique style of production in order to deliver their latest anthem of neo latin disco. after a few months of experimentation across different sounds los charlys are back into their main arena with an outstanding new single entitle everlasting love. los charlys orchestra were first known by their initial disco/funk period and more recently by their infectious latin/funk sound, which has been buzzing all around the place for the past couple of years. this new single expresses a cross road in between the two periods of lco bringing up a new perspective for the future of this outfit.

a kaleidoscope of rainbow textures and rhythms disperse into the exotic soundscape of *tropical*. electronics, real folk instruments and noise-making objects feature here generously on this six-track concept album, blending together a sonic palette influenced by a rich variety of music, people and places. the material was initially written over the course of a few months during what seneviratne called *a beautiful burst of inspiration*. working with veteran producer asier leatxe ibanez d opakoa (electric lady studios, nyc), seneviratne then set about disassembling all the songs and re-working them meticulously, enriching the sounds by adding a huge range of live instrumentation, before processing the audio through vintage analogue studio gear. the vinyl lp comes with download code.

demarzos sound is a meticulously crafted one. his toxic perfectionism and shrewd sense of rhythm lead him naturally to where he is today. his well-revised sets include anything from underground deep house to main room deep tech. after releases on hot creations, noir, glasgow underground or loulou records to name a few, arrives to sincopat with two secret weapons. holster is a cheeky but solid track which brings together groove and melody. analogue synths being added, it also presents changing voices all the way. for the remix, walker & royce take the deep way with a dry kick and sinister notes. pay attention to the astonishing breakdown. trigger is the second original track, in the same language than holster, and using some classic groovebox bullets. ramiro lopez, one of the sincopats golden boys, after his bedrock release, offers two fresh versions with different treatments.

the prolific lord of the isles (aka scotlands neil mcdonald) has had a string of stunning 12 inches over the past few years on labels such as permanent vacation, unthank, shevchenko, mule and of course his four track > year of the city ep< on phonica, which was widely acclaimed upon its release in 2012. this time loti presents two long-form tracks, each a mini-masterpiece in itself. the 10 minute plus >greane< bursts into life after an intro of kicks and white noise hi-hats. it continues to slowly build, with pitch-bent synth lines and a pulsing bass-line making way for a melacholic shift in mood. truly original stuff! on the flip, a swirl of synthetic strings introduces ‘gigha’, in a manner that brings to mind rhythm is rhythm’s legendary ‘kao-tic harmony’, before the drums and infectious acid-line join in. over the 8 minutes they continue to interweave and play off each other to dazzling effect. artwork by jack featherstone, the designer of a number of sleeves for border community (including the highly praised campaign behind james holden’s ‘the inheritors’, its singles and live visuals), electric minds, warm and of course, phonica.

usually found in partnership with blocks on their own narratives imprint, here we find escher flying solo with two beautifully contrasting compositions. deep architecture has already been causing a big stir online due to its wild time signature and off-beat percussive patterns. physically its drum & bass, but mentally its most definitely techno as it pummels with loopy drum insistency. spirit bounce, meanwhile, is a stark and breezy stepper that oozes space and shimmers with emotive synths. its a simple but soulful synthesis many have attempted over the year but only few have mastered... klute, marcus intalex and now escher, too. the return of 31 has been one of d&bs best stories so far this year.

a few trips in tel aviv made ivan smagghe aware of the extensive and more importantly, quasi forgotten, wave and pop scene from israel. blown away some of the tracks passed on to him, he and the ginger prince thought it would be a good start for the lddlm reissues series, edits and originals.

love or hate his infamous twitter beefs there is no denying the legendary status of this house music vanguard. with 20+ years of djing and producing under his belt, this is dj sneak s first release on exploited: a collaboration with murk (oscar g and ralph falcon). back in 2003 murk released dark beat - a track that topped the billboard dance charts and became the underground smash of the year. a few months ago we asked sneak for a remix by mail but we didn t get a reply. after 4 months he suddenly popped up in our mailbox, apologized and said that he finally had some studio time. in the end he sent through some tracks to see if we like them. the rest is history as you re probably listening to one of the tracks right now. this quirky and funky house track (a 10 minute journey) is only the tip of the ice berg though.

london based producer io sounds has been making big shapes in the underground over the past few years, the rising artist dropped an exciting collaborative ep with lakosa via kerri chandlers madtech imprint last year, as well as a remix for chandlers long-running madhouse label. weve also heard outstanding guest mixes for cameo on bbcs 1xtra and coco coles capital fm show. with this in mind its no surprise to see the enigmatic producer snapped up for a series of releases on 2020vision, a label that has a knack for finding talent in the early stages of their career

the debut album by synthek & audiolouis can be seen like a precious gathering of different approaches to techno, made in order to create a meaningful and elaborate piece of work. the opening tracks miasma and intro:spection are just a glimpse into the atmospheres which costantly surround the whole album. strong rhythmics and overwhelming soundscapes never abandon the ears, modulating intensity and brightness along the journey through a sea full of dark acid waves. unwise is a bold sequence of powerful tracks devotedly written for the dancefloor, but still keeps a certain emotional aspect made of few melodic detroit-rooted cuts, standing as a tribute to the authors primary inspirations.

italian dj & producer who relocated in dublin in the 90s before coming to prominence with a series of productions for great labels like uzuri, ostgut ton, million of moments to name a few. now for the thirteenth release of hotmix, realizes a special ep with four techno/hypnotic tracks highest level.

traumer aka romain reynaud has been plugging away of late with a string of fresh material surfacing in 2014, much of which has seen the blossoming producer pick up support from the likes of mr.g, franck roger, and doc martin to name but a few. here we see romain join the roster of loco dices desolat imprint. across the double pack we see traumer skilfully explore a range of styles, opening cut hoodlum eases us in nicely with a bass-driven, funk-infused groove fuelled by jazzy melodies and gritty drum sounds.

in addition to his work as one half of mista men, london via doncaster producer ryan aitchison has been making solo moves under his mella dee guise these past few years with appearances in all the right places (think wolf music, shabby doll and sccucci manucci).

the last few years has seen a series of well received releases from rhythmic theory, the anonymous techno producer lurking in the shadows of the bristol music scene. *endless forms* is their second release for idle hands and follows on from where the previous ep *legacy of the lost* left off. the title track delves deeper into the sonic realms of classic jungle and comes up for air sounding like dub techno. a weighty bass line propels things along, whilst a sci-fi voice intones the title. this one is a sound system rocker. *tales of dystopia* brings to mind early nineties uk techno with its haunting synths, swung beats and deadly bass line. rhythmic theory is killing it at the moment, expect more to come.

once again, the sunkissed camp get it spot on with this loud-pressed 12 inch collection of balearic classics from brazilian songstress astrud gilberto. opens with the original version of mesmerising dancer *black magic*, a great dj weapon that got the tangoterje edit seal of approval a few years back. followed by balearic favourite *beginnings*, a jazzy take on chicago s classic hit which spins out into eight minutes of sensual bliss. turn over for big daniel wang play, the obscure lp track *all i ve got*, a glorious low-slung floor-filling gem produced by none other than salsoul orchestra founder vince montana who also supplies the sublime disco version of the song that made astrud a household name *the girl from ipanema*. lastly comes her cool and breezy version of the bossanova jazz standard *agua de beber*. beautiful stuff.

laura jones is a rare specimen, a producer who puts her heart and soul into every production. the few key releases she has made for crosstown rebels, visionquest and leftroom have become instant anthems and shot her into stardom. embrace sees a return to leftroom and to form for laura with new exploration into darker techno underworlds with think over and imagination unreal, illustrating the complexity and breadth of jones as a producer.

7 years after the last zhark vinyl release, heavyweight techno nihilist & labelhead kareem opens up another chapter of advanced technoid noizcore with his 11th full length ep on zhark. after a few years of silence kareem had just reemerged with releases on foundation sonore (fs 01), porto ronco on death of rave or mesmer on zhark digital but is now threatening to inspire more uncompromising percussive hostility. let this just be the beginning: whereas side a emphasis on a very distinguished dance floor groove concept of machine funk embedded in metal layers side b leaves room for a less formatted approach building up tension which is leading to a free firezone of depravity. while methodic differentiations can be discovered on each side, the listener is continously confrontated with haunting sonic extremism.
